COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course surveys the Epistles found in the New Testament. Special emphasis is placed on authorship, date, and the purpose of each book. This course is intended to be an introductory course (one could do a separate course on each of the letters).

A typical survey course seeks to deal with 2 areas:

1. General background information about each book – authorship, date, audience, and purpose.
2. General content of each book – key words, concepts, themes and outline.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

• Be able to identify and discuss major themes of each book discussed.
• Have a grasp on the date of composition of each book discussed.
• Increased understanding of the historical and pastoral issues related to each letter and the purposes and themes of each.
• To stimulate you to think critically about the truths in the New Testament and how they relate to today’s culture.
• To stimulate an interest in the New Testament that encourages a commitment to lifelong study.
